Foundation Phase - Grade R - Grade 3

Curriculum

International Maarif School is a small independent school at which the small classes enable our dedicated educators to adopt a hands-on and individualized approach to express our commitment to the 3 A’s which will underpin our methodology in this phase.

Acceptance – Every child has an innate need for recognition, to feel wanted and to belong.
Affection – Children of this age thrive on love and have a natural inclination to respond equally when afforded warmth and compassion.
Advancement – In the formative years of schooling, children are eager for opportunities to express themselves and their self-esteem is boosted through achievement. At IMS we believe that Nothing Succeeds Like Success and every child should be provided with ample opportunities to achieve according to his unique ability so as to thrive on the resulting recognition and be eager for more.

This phase has three core learning areas, English as the Home Language, Mathematics and Life Skills with the addition of Afrikaans as the First Additional Language from Grade One onwards.

Religious Education

The International Maarif School does not teach religious studies. In the diverse and multicultural society that we live in, we believe that it is the choice and responsibility of parents to guide their child’s spiritual development. We do however teach universally accepted morals and values programme, which we hope will help guide children’s decisions and choices.

Environmental Awareness

In line with the emphasis on global themes in 21^st Century Learning Skills, our learners are taught to acquire a deep love of and sense of respect for the natural environment. Various aspects of nature are studied and discussed. The learners visit the Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve with their class teacher and each term there is ongoing school-wide environmental focus on aspects such as conservation and public initiatives such as the owl project and many more.
