What has Maarif Foundation NPC done for International Maarif School in eighteen months since purchase of Hartford College?

Discontinued the R5 000.00 Development Fee for new enrolments and introduced discounts on School Fees for families enrolling more than one child.

Sold school uniforms to parents at 50% discount on initial purchase as a welcome gesture. Acknowledged the faulty stitching of buttons on jackets and paid for the repair of all jackets. Issued a free jacket to every learner as compensation for that poor stitching of buttons.

Undertook extensive renovations, repair and extensions at the school:

  • replaced the entire astroturf surface of the netball court
  • painted the interior of the entire school
  • commissioned new and bold signage on the buildings
  • laid out an obstacle course for learners    
  • constructed new offices on the premises of IMS to augment the number of classrooms
  • purchased adjacent property to increase the number of classrooms and sports facilities.

Introduced Coding and Robotics as a subject from Grades R upwards, with a state-of-the-art laboratory, the latest teaching and learning resources and training for our educators.

Introduced a Wellness Hub at the school to provide a Counselling service for learners and to conduct programmes for learners even proactively on detection of needs.

Appointed extra educators even though the school roll is the same as on takeover in 2021.

Sourced a large consignment of books for educators and learners from the stores of Turkish Maarif Foundation in Istanbul at no cost to the school.

Arranged for our Principal Mrs Delport to attend the five-day Istanbul Education Summit, fully sponsored by Turkish Maarif Foundation. Mrs Delport joined school Principals, educators and governors from all parts of world to listen to highly qualified and experienced educationists from eminent universities as well as Heads of State and Ministers of Education who constituted panels to discuss current themes and trends in education.

Work is in progress to create a library, which was previously located in a walkway, as well as an eco-space to meet the recreational needs of learners in the newly introduced Senior Phase.

Introduced the MAGIS Entrance examination with scholarships for the top three performers. MAGIS also has systemic value for monitoring of the standards of teaching and learning in the relevant grades.

Introduced aftercare.

A 24/7 on site security service was introduced for the first time at the school.

Copious advertising of IMS continues via print media, social media, billboards, visits to other schools, the IMS website and circulars to parents.

Highly skilled artists, one from Turkiye and two South Africans, were engaged to display their artistry to parents and learners with a view to promoting the chosen visual arts in the STREAM paradigm of IMS.

As a first at the school, a School Parents’ Council (SPC) was constituted by IMS with nominations and elections by parents of learners attending the school.

Staff Development workshops were conducted to upskill educators on the 3A’s (Attention, Affection and Advancement) to be awarded to every learner at IMS, 21st Century Learning Skills and Flipped Lessons.

The recently finalized Three Year Strategic Plan devised jointly by the proprietor and the Principal will inter alia continue to address staff development in the aspects mentioned above and seek Curriculum Enrichment through inclusion of Character Refinement Programmes for learners and Global Themes.
